Book Mary for an Event that Inspires, Educates, and Empowers

Mary Anderson, founder of My Music Starts Here and host of Songs & Stories on PBS, is an experienced speaker on the topic of turbo-charging children’s brain development and wellness through music. Her talks, workshops, and programs are customized and designed to inspire audiences and groups of all sizes to stretch their understanding of music as a powerful tool for joyful learning and to return to the classroom with action steps to integrate high-quality music learning. Mary’s presentations, keynote addresses, and workshops are designed to help educators and administrators understand why early childhood music is so important in the classroom and how to use music as a way to connect, heal, and spark joy. As a sought-after speaker, Mary regularly delivers unforgettable presentations that move audiences across the country – including at the NAEYC Annual Conference and Professional Learning Institute, delivering the keynote address for the VAAEYC Annual Conference two years in a row, and many, many more.

“I loved everything about Mary’s session with us! I was a little star struck since I watched her show on PBS all during covid with my own children. She really is part of the reason that made me want to be a preschool teacher! I love her enthusiasm and the way she makes learning fun and the effortless way she incorporates music. I loved the way she used examples of why songs like “Baby Shark” or loud movement songs can really do the opposite of what you are trying to do with your class. Those songs do not calm them and it actually makes behavior problems worse when they aren’t able to regulate themselves when the music goes off.”

Book Mary & The Classroom Instrument Band

A Child-Centered Performance to Remember

Looking for the perfect performance to engage young children and their families and/or teachers? Mary & The Classroom Instrument Band is a group of fiercely talented musicians and educators, dedicated to making music accessible to young children.

Founded by Mary and Mike Anderson, this group of musicians performs a mix of original music with favorite cover songs arranged to be appropriate and engaging for young children, as well as familiar folk songs, children’s poems, and even an original musical story about a traveling red ukulele.  And sometimes, they are even joined by LaLa, their delightful puppet who la-la-loves to sing!

The group is ever-changing and can perform in venues as small as local bookshops to larger venues like schools and libraries and even as large as the Richmond Folk Festival!
